Ricardo Gouvea, our pastor, is an ordained minister of the Reformed Church in America (RCA). At the same time he is currently a visiting research scholar and visiting professor at St. Paul’s University College at the University of Waterloo, in Waterloo, Ontario.

Pastor Gouvea and Lilia, his wife, have been married for 32 years. They have no children of their own. Lilia is a scholar as well, with an M.A. in Christian Counseling from Biblical Theological Seminary (in Hatfield, PA), and an M.S. in Psychology. She taught at Paulista University, in Brazil, for seventeen years, and was a school teacher for seven years before that.

Dr. Gouvea has been a professor of theology, philosophy, applied social studies, and religious studies in different seminaries and universities for 25 years. He has a B.A. in literature, an M.A. in missiology, a Th.M. in systematic theology, a Ph.D. in historical and theological studies from Westminster Theological Seminary, completed in 1998.

He recently spent a period at the Religious Studies Department of St. Paul’s University College, which was later validated as a post-doctoral research, after which he was invited to become a visiting professor.

Pastor Gouvea was ordained a minister of Word and Sacrament of the Brazilian Presbyterian Church in 1992. He spent six years in the USA in the 90’s working on his graduate studies in theology. He pastored six different churches since the day of his ordination, and Faith Reformed is the seventh church he serves (the third in the RCA).

In 2014, he moved from Sao Paulo, Brazil, to Mississauga, Ontario, and became an ordained minister of the Reformed Church in America and a full-time pastor at New Alliance Reformed Church, which later, after a successful merger, was renamed as New Hope Reformed Church. He also pastored, simultaneously, at Countryside Reformed Church (in Cambridge, ON) for four years.

In 2016 he was invited to become the vice-president of Reformed Synod of Canada, as a volunteer. Then, in the next year, he was the president of the Synod for a year. He is still a member of the board of the RSC-RCA.

Rev. Gouvea is passionate about his ministry of preaching, teaching, and discipleship. He is committed to the holy obligation of pastoral care, Christian counseling, and spiritual mentorship. If you need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact him by phone or email.
