Dear brother and sisters in Christ,
Grace and peace to you in Jesus Christ.
“I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” (3 John 2)
The Premier of Ontario has declared a state of emergency morning, for the health crisis worsens. This led the consistory to suspend all FRC activities, including the morning and evening services on Sundays.
We do not know what the future hold for us. Yet, we know who holds the future. We are safe in the hands of the Lord:
“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies. And whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” (John 11:25-26)
We may not understand the situations we find ourselves in with Covid-19 any more than the faith heroes of the past could figure out their own situation of suffering. However, Christians are not without the understanding that God is in total control.
My colleague, Rev. Abram Blaak, shared with me his meditation on the Psalms. “Let’s find comfort in the Psalms,” he said. Psalm 27:1 asks the questions:
“The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?”
Psalm 46:1-3 gives us one possible answer:
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”
We have this confidence, even though everything is shut down:
“The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” (46:7)
These, then, are my recommendations to you, dear brothers and sisters: keep praying and trust in the Lord our God! And worship the Lord each and every day! Ask God for His strength and wisdom. And also be prudent: wash your hands, keep distances, and stay home as much as possible.
I pray that you continue under the mercy and the grace of the God Most High.
In Christ, kind regards from your pastor,
