Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Psalm 78:52-53
He brought his people out like a flock;
He led them like sheep through the wilderness.
He guided them safely, so they were unafraid;
but the sea engulfed their enemies.
These days are full of uncertainty and instability. There is political stress, there war mongering and economic anxiety, and its escalating to a point of despair and hopelessness. Its leaves us feeling trapped.
The Israelites were trapped in Egypt, enslaved and in bondage. But – as our verse for the day says – “He brought His people out like a flock”. Under the anointed leadership of Moses, the Lord lead His people out of Egypt.
We, like the Israelites, were delivered from our enslavement to sin, our bondage from the devil through Jesus’ death and resurrection.
However, when the Israelites left Egypt, they found themselvesagainst the Red Sea and being hunted by Pharoah and the Egyptian army of chariots. What does the next verse say? “He guided them safely so they were unafraid”. Just as He led them out of Egypt, the Lord led them through the Red Sea. And when the Egyptians followed, the “sea engulfed them”.
We like the Israelites will find ourselves with our backs against the wall; our backs against our personal Red Sea. But its as we trust our deliverer, who has delivered us once, to deliver us again – we only have to be faithful, and trust and obey. And because He is our deliverer, our conquering King, He will swallow up our enemies. Remember – the battle belongs to the Lord.
Prayer: Lord thank you that you have delivered me from the bondage of sin, and from the strategies of the devil. Deliver me today from any and all circumstances that might engulf me. The battle is you. Help me to walk by faith. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
