Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Leviticus 1:3

“‘If the offering is a burnt offering from the herd, you are to offer a male without defect. You must present it at the entrance to the tent of meeting so that it will be acceptable to the Lord.”

There is an idea going around that “God loves us and accepts us as we are”. That is not true. People who usually claim this, do so because they don’t want to deal with their own sinfulness.

Here’s the truth – every person born is born dead in their sin, and are in bondage to their sin nature. This makes us imperfect. The reality of our sinfulness is unacceptable to God. We cannotdraw near to God because He is a holy God. But the amazing thing is that He desires fellowship with humans and has revealed a way that we can be acceptable. We are acceptable by the blood shed by perfect animals. This is the point of the text from Leviticus 1:3 – blood is shed from a perfect animal for atonement. Unfortunately, this effects of this blood atonement istemporary and sacrifices will have to be made again and again.

BUT here’s the Good News! Jesus Christ is the lamb of God, without stain or blemish, completely perfect and is able to make the atoning sacrifice “once and for all” (Hebrews 10:10). This means that it is not repeated and furthermore is is definitive in that when we are born again, the blood cleanses us once and for all and it is exactly at this point that the righteousness of Christ is imputed (placed upon) us – and now we are acceptable to God (2 Corinthians 5:21). And all of this is a free gift from the Lord. He did is all this because He loved us and dealt with the issue that we could not.

Without Christ we are not acceptable to God, in Christ we are made acceptable to God and we have all the rights and privileges as the children of God. We cannot convince God that we are acceptable. We can only believe and receive the righteousness of Christ and then be acceptable. We have to stop trying to convince ourselves and God that we are acceptable.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for the sacrifice of blood for my sins, in Christ Jesus, by which my sins are forgiven, I am cleansed and I have been born again as a new creation and have become acceptable in your sight. Because of your mercy. I surrender myself to you as a living sacrifice. Jesus, live your life in me, reflecting your righteousness to the world. Be glorified in and through me by the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’s name I pray. Amen
