Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)
Text: Job 23:10-11
“But he knows where I am going.
And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold.
For I have stayed on God’s paths;
I have followed his ways and not turned aside.”
One of many challenges that we will have as Christians, is keeping our trial and tests in perspective. Typically, we think that when there are trials and tribulations that these are bad and we are being punished by God. And because of that incorrect perspective, we try to stay clear of trials and tests.
However, to put this into perspective, lets be reminded of Romans 5:3-4, that reads – “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.” Our trials and test have the benefit of producing endurance, strength of character and strengthens our confident hope of salvation. None of those things are negative. There are all good things.
And this is what Job is trying to get across in our text for today: “…when He tests me, I will come out as pure gold”. Our tests and trials will turn us into gold. We will be precious in God’s sight. Our tests are beneficial. Furthermore. We can expect test even when we are walking on the paths that God has assigned to us. We can expects tests when we follow His ways and have not turned aside. Its only as we see His tests as beneficial, as able to produce gold that we can see that these are not to punish us but are for our good. God works in all things (including tests) for our good, because He loves us and wants the best for us (see Romans 8:28). Whatever test you may find yourself in, embrace it – its for your God.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for all the tests that you bring my way. Use them to produce fruit and gold in me; use them to bring glory to you. I embrace all test and I give thanks to your goodness to me in all my tests. May I have peace, strength and endurance in all my tests today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
