Text: Judges 6:12
When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”
It must have sounded very strange to Gideon to hear these words from the Lord that described him as a “mighty warrior”. That is not how he would perceive of himself. In verse 11 it describes Gideon as threshing his wheat in the winepress. He was threshing his grain in secret so the Midianites would not see him and not steal the grain.
For seven years, the Midianites oppressed and harassed the Isrealites that they went into hiding in order to survive. Nevertheless, the Lord called Gideon as mighty warrior. Although he didn’t feel like a mighty warrior, God said he was. And this should encourage us, that no matter what terrible thing we are going through, we are the children of God, we are brothers and sisters to Christ and that is an awesome privilege. Knowing who we are in Christ, should strengthen ourresolve to be faithful every day to the Lord. Our identity is not in our self-perception or in what the world says we are, in Christ we too are might warriors able to accomplish the Lord’s assignment. Bec encouraged that you are indeed a mighty warrior, child of God.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you that in Christ I am a mighty warrior and you have called to be a part of your mission to drive back the darkness in the world. Help me to be faithful, and to not be fearful. Be glorified in an through me today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
