Text: Judges 16:12 Part 2
So Delilah took new ropes and tied him up with them. The men were hiding in the inner room as before, and again Delilah cried out, “Samson! The Philistines have come to capture you!” But again Samson snapped the ropes from his arms as if they were thread. (NLT)
Yesterday, we saw how Samson’s compromise led to his downfall (see Judges 16:19-22). And from this we were warned about compromising our walk with the Lord. Here is another thing to think about with regards to Samson. Samson’s compromise began with the “sin of presumption”: presuming that because he was consecrated to the Lord, and he was the Lord’s deliverer, he could whatever he pleased. Many Christians live their lives the same way. They presume that because they are “saved” that they are safe from all dangers. Grace does not give us permission to live any way we want. And grace is not about God helping us to live our life. Grace empowers us to live in obedience to the Lord. Grace empowers us to live out our purpose of making the Lord known to the world. We cannot be self-indulgent.
Prayer: Gracious Lord, forgive me for the times I have lived for self, have taken you for granted and have not let you live your life in and through me. Cleanse me and fill me that I will only live for you. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
