Text: Psalm 18:2

“The Lord is my refuge…”

In Joshua 20:7-8 we read of the establishment of the cities of refuge. These are described in Numbers 35 and Deuteronomy 19 as places where those who have killed could flee for protection. Once they were in the city, and stayed in the city, they could not be punished or killed. This is a dramatic depiction of God’s mercy. And this is what King David is driving at when he says the “Lord is my refuge”. Implying, that when I sin, I can flee into the presence of the Lord and I am protected, safe and secure. And I will remain so long as I remain in Him. What are you fleeing from? Anxiety? Stress? Medical issues? Fears? Flee to the Lord, abide in His refuge; abide in Christ and His peace will cover you and keep your heart in Him.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you that no matter what I am going through, no matter what is seeking to overwhelm me – I can flee to you, be in your presence and know that you are my refuge. Holy Spirit help me to always remain centered on and in Jesus. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
