Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Psalm 1:1

“Blessed is the man…”

There are those who argue that we shouldn’t be “seeking” God’s blessings, that to do so would to be dancing the dance of materialism. That dance can be avoided if we keep the Biblical understanding in front of us. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus no less than 9 times used the word “blessed” in His beatitudes. Being blessed is more about a state of being, than prosperity or financial gain. In Psalm 1:1 it says “Blessed is the man…”. The word “blessed” can be translated as “happy is the man” (or person). The Lord’s wants to bless us with a state of happiness that comes from knowing Him and that by knowing His word. Paul describes this happiness as contentment, that because he was happy/content in the Lord it didn’t matter if he had everything or nothing (Philippians 4:11). Jesus himself wants to bless us with “life to the full” (John 10:10).

Prayer: Thank you Jesus for the reminder that we can be happy in your written Word that points to you, the living Word. You are the living Word that dwellswithin me. That is an incredible blessing. May I rejoice in that truth today and may you be glorified in and through me today. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
