Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Psalm 119:34
Give me understanding, so that I may keep your lawand obey it with all my heart.
Many people want to understand the Bible, but they can’t. They keep trying and trying, but no matter what they do, they can’t understand the Word. Nothing is going to change until they experience the Holy Spirit gives them understanding. That is why this Psalm says – “give me understanding”.
This is the role of the Holy Spirit: to lead us into the truth of the Bible. The Holy Spirit gives us understanding of the Word and then He empowers us to hold onto that Word, and do what it says.
It is very important that before we even begin to read the Bible that we ask the Holy Spirit to give us understanding, and then ask the Holy Spirit for the power to obey it with all our heart.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word, the Bible. As I turn to read your Word, Holy Spirit give me understanding, so that in being obedient to the Word, I can bring glory to Jesus Christ – the living Word who lives inside me. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
