Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

August 21 2026

Text: Psalm 119:35

Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.

We all need directions. When life gets confusing, directions guide us. A lighthouse provides directions for ships. An air traffic control tower provides directions for a safe flight. GPS provides driving directions. And whenever we get something in a box, the “instructions” give us the directions of how to build it. Directions are always beneficial.

The Psalmist want direction. And that shows humility. It also expresses a desire to be on the right path, a desire to always be obeying the commands of God. But notice the benefit – its where the Psalmist finds His greatest delight.

Its astounding the number of people who go to Church who have no desire to read the Bible. They treat it as insignificant and meaningless to their lives and unable to give direction. These so called “Church goers” are not believers, they are dead in their sin and hypocrisy. The Word of God is an incredible gift because it points us to Jesus who is the “way”, “truth” and the “life” and obeying Him and His word is our greatest delight and privilege.

Prayer: Father God, direct me always to your path and command found only in your Word. Increase my desire for your Word and increase the delight I find in your Word. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
