Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)
October 20 2026
Text: Psalm 119:77
Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight.
When most people think about the God of the Bible, they think only that He is an angry, wrathful God, waiting to punish and send to hell. And while the wrath of God is a reality of His nature, it is equally true that God is s God of mercy. In factit is His mercy that gives us the hope that we don’t have to experience wrath. Because of our sin, we all deserve wrath, judgement and hell. But God is merciful in that while we were sinners, He sent Jesus to die on the cross – to be our payment for sin. In His mercy justice was met on the cross so that by grace through faith in Jesus Christ we could live a new life. Live a life of hope. Jesus is the fulfillment of the law, and that is our delight. And as we meditate on what Jesus has done, as revealed in the Word, we can know His compassion and mercy that gives us joy and gives us life.
Prayer: Father God, as I start this day – may I ever be mindful of your mercy and compassion for me and may I rejoice with gratitude to you for this life I have. Be glorified in and through me today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
