Text: Psalm 2:1

“Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain?”

These days its seems that everyone wants to do their own thing, oblivious to the impact or concerns of others. The same thing happened amongst the Israelites in the Book of Judges. Six times read that “again the Israelites did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord”. Why would they do that?

Psalm 2 gives us our answer. The Psalmist asks the question – “why do the nations conspire and the people plot in vain?” What are they plotting? What are they conspiring to do? Verse 3 tells us: they people say – “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles”. In their pride they are rebelling; they are sinning. In Proverbs 29:18 it reads – “When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.”

When we are governed by our selfish pride, we think we know better, that we can do whatever we want. And many Christians are deceived by that as well. But when we accept divine guidance (the Word of God), we will run wild. When we accept God’s Word as law, we will know much joy.

But what happens if we don’t submit to God’s Word and God’s way? Psalm 2:9 say that those who cast off all restraints, will be broken with a rod of iron, and will be dashed to pieces like pottery. In a word – judgement.

Whatever madness you see around you, don’t allow you to be tempted to do what ever you want. Instead, submit yourself to God, resist the devil and his ways and the joy of the Lord will be your strength.

Heavenly Father, thank you that  your ways are better than anyone else’s way. Thank you Jesus that you are the WAY, the truth and the life. As I submit myself to you, guard my heart and empower me to live for your glory today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
