Daily Light: March 12th

Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Psalm 139:23-24

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

The purpose of the Christian life, is to become like Jesus. Romans 8:29 reminds us that we are predestined to be conformed to the image of the Son. 2 Corinthians 3:18 reminds us that from “glory to glory we are being transformed into His likeness”. In becoming like Jesus, we have been chosen to holy and blameless – just like Jesus. Even Jesus implied this to His disciples when He said – “take up your cross, die to self and follow me.”   We are to be like Jesus.

Although is the Lord’s expectation for us, it is our greatest challenge. And that challenge arises from the heart. And it’s the issues of our heart that we keep tripping over in our quest to become more like Jesus. However, the heart is deceitful (Jeremiah 17:9) and requires careful examination to get to the heart of our pride.  The Holy Spirit (the revealer of truth) helps us to examine our hearts, to identify the issues and the wickedness. The verse also suggests that we examine our thoughts. Both for the purpose to see if there is anything offensive within us. Once we get understanding from the Lord about our heart, we confess and repent. After that we commit ourselves (by the power of the Holy Spirit) to be leads in the way everlasting – living fulling in Jesus who is “the way, the truth and the life”.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, show me my heart; show me my pride and all that is offensive within me. Cleanse me and forgive me that I might today, walk in the fullness of Jesus Christ. In His name I pray.
