Daily Light: March 6th

Daily Light Devotional (Psalm 119:105 Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path)

March 6 2026

Text: Joshua 1:9

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Here is Joshua, formerly the right hand of Moses, who led the Israelites out of Egypt, now being positioned and commissioned by God to lead the Israelites into the promised land; to drive out the inhabitants (which surely means conflict) and settle the people in the land. That’s a pretty daunting assignment.

Previously, in verses 6 and 7, God told Him -“be strong and very courageous”. He then instructed Joshua to keep the Law in His heart and mind. All this was said before our text: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and very courageous.”

Do you realize what the command is? God is commanding our emotions. Its one thing to command “do not steal”, but to command to be strong (emotionally) and courageous, to not be afraid or discouraged. Actually, there is no difference between the two commands. To not steal is a choice and to not be afraid is also a choice. Obedience is always a choice. To love is a choice. To love our enemies is a choice.

The interesting thing is that the Lord has provided power to make the choice to obey (Philippians 2:13) and He has also provided the power to work within us to accomplish those things that he commands us to do that are beyond our imagination (Ephesians 3:20).

When we might the choice to obey, both with our actions and our emotions – God releases His power to empower us to do whatever He has commanded us to do. This is His promise when He says – “I will be with you wherever you go.” What are you facing today? Be strong and courageous, and His power will carry you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the power to be obedient to you. As I chose to do so, fill me with that power and guide me as I go today, seeking your glory in all things. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
