Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)
March 9 2026
Text: Deuteronomy 6:6-7
These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
In a poll, it was recorded that less than 30% of Church goers read their Bibles daily. That means 70% do not. This also means that the vast majority of Church goers (most of whom are “believers”) only get exposed to the Word of God on Sunday morning. This means that since the Word of God is comparable to daily bread, Christians are spiritually starving. Biblical literacy is rampant in the Church; the Biblical world view is non-existent.
The text for today makes it very clear, the commandments of God, contained in the Word of God are to be impressed upon us daily. We are to eat and digest the Word of God daily, often and consistently. We are to teach the Word of God to our children. We are to meditate upon the Word of God whenever and wherever we are. Its in digesting the Word of God that we will know Him more intimately; that we will know the will of God and when we know the will of God we can pray according to the will of God. Moreover, when the Word of God is in us, our prayers will be saturated with the Word of God and that is pleasing to the Lord.
How are you doing with your Bible reading? Be honest. Is it something you love to do, because you love the Lord? Or do you do it to check a box to say you did it? We must all examine our hearts to see where we place the Bible in our priorities.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I repent of my spiritual laziness, and my lack of commitment to your Word. Forgive me and put a desire in my heart to read, eat and digest your Word everyday so that I might live according to your will revealed in the Word of God. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
