Prayer Corner: Psalm 23:1

Psalm 23:1, The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want.

My Shepherd

If you gave me one million dollars, one reversal of fortune could scatter it. Now, give me a spiritual hold on the divine assurance that “the Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want”, and I am set for life. I will never go broke with this stock in my hand or be bankrupt with this security.

Don’t give me ready cash; give me a check book and let me withdraw what I need. This is how God works with the believer. God doesn’t immediately transfer the inheritance; He lets us draw what we need out of the riches of His fullness in Christ Jesus. “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.” What a glorious inheritance!

Walk up and down it. Rest on it. It will be a soft downy pillow for you to lie on.
As you may climb your creaking staircase and lie down on your mattress, wrap yourself in a soft blanket and look out for the winter of hard times. But don’t say “What shall I do?” Just hum, “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.” This will be like a lullaby to your soul, and you will soon slumber peacefully.

Business people, stay at home people, children and students, you may feel “how can I do all this, I am so worried” That is when we stop, look up, and say “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.” Write that in your check book. It is better than silver or gold. Now see what your new balance is.

If we disregard this truth—“The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want”—you know nothing about its preciousness. If you grasp this, you will find this promise is like fine Chianti wine, which the ancients said flavoured the lips of those that tasted it. Wow, blessed assurance, we can never get enough.

In these tense times in the world, we can pray. Yes, we have the power to talk to God and hand our worries to Him, (another blessed assurance). God’s word + prayer = POWER.

Father God bless this world and the people of your creation. Parents read the Holy Word to your children so as they can be comforted and reassured that God is sovereign and in control.

Prayerfully yours,
Nancy
