Prayer Corner: Week of May 12th

Psalm 21:4, He asked you for life, and you gave it to him-length of days, for ever and ever.

                                   “You gave it to him”

God will give us much more than we ask. Abraham asked God that Ishmael might live before him. He thought, “Surely this is the promised heir. I cannot expect Sarah to have a child in her old age.” God has promised me an heir. It must be Hagar’s child.” So he said, “Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!”

(Genesis 17:18). God granted Abraham that request, but He still gave him Isaac and all the blessings of the covenant.

There is Jacob. He kneels to pray and asks the Lord to give him bread and clothing (Genesis 28:20).

What did God give him? When he returned to Bethel he had thousands of sheep and camels and much wealth
(Genesis 32:3). God had heard, and He did exceedingly abundantly above what he asked (Ephisians 3:20)

It is said of David, “He asked life from You, and You gave it to him-length of days forever and ever”
(Psalm 21:4). Yes God gave not only length of days, but also a throne for his sons throughout all generations.
David sat before the Lord, overpowered with the Lord’s goodness.

“Well,” you ask, “Is that true of New Testament prayers?” Yes, it is. They brought a paralytic to Jesus and asked Him to heal him. He said, “Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you” (Matt. 9:2). He had not asked for that, had he? No, but God gives greater things than we ask.

Hear that poor dying thief’s humble prayer, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom. And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise” (Luke 23:42-43). He had not dreamed of such and honour.
Once we ask, we will have what you never asked for and never thought to receive.

Remember, God loves you always. Be kind and courageous, show all the attributes of the Holy Spirit that lives in us. God’s word + prayer = POWER. Pray for each other whether in a crisis or for just blessings in abundance. God is love and so we should be. Ask the Lord what He would like from us, lead us daily.
