Praying the Psalms: 127

A SONG OF ASCENTS. OF SOLOMON.

Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labour in vain.
Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives to his beloved sleep.

Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth.
Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

Gracious God and Heavenly Father,

You are holy, wise and loving. You have us in your hands. You care for us and nurture us and protect us. You admonish us and you correct us. You are in control of our lives. We cannot do anything good without you. Our efforts are nothing compared to your will and your grace. We strive to build our lives but fail if you are not with us. There is no need for us to be anxious, for you are sovereign. Help us to surrender to your will and live our lives in accordance with it and trust you with our whole hearts. We will have peace and we will accomplish great things for you if we do.

We ask that you be with us as we strive to please you in our little church. We ask that you make us good and faithful servants of each other and of our community. Strengthen our beliefs through good teaching and embolden us to witness to our family, friends and neighbours. Father, you provide everything we need and bless us when we are obedient to you. Thank you for your mercy, for the gift of your Son, Jesus, who has died so that we may live.

In His name we pray. AMEN.
