At that time, Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you
have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little
children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except
the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son
chooses to reveal him.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my
yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will
find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
Precious Lord Jesus,
You praised your heavenly Father for exercising his sovereign will over the people, using miracles to cause some to believe and repent and others to be condemned. We do not know why some are chosen and others left behind, but here we are reminded that it is all at our Father and Creator’s good pleasure. And so Father we thank you for the miraculous gift of faith and the promise of salvation you have given us by your grace alone through Christ alone.
No one has a more intimate relationship than the Father and the Son, but those who are in Christ can know the Father, and no one can know the Father unless the Son reveals him to him. We cannot fathom the ways of God but we know that we must trust you, Lord Jesus, in all things and that you will take away our burdens and give us rest for our souls. We thank you and praise you for redeeming us and for your promise of peace in this world as well as the next.
AMEN.
