Daily Light: April 23rd

Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

April 23 2026

Text: Acts 1:8

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

At the end of the Gospel of Matthew Jesus gave the disciples the “Great Commission” – the command to go and make disciples of all nations. As disciples we know this is our assignment, but we struggle with it. How do we make disciples. Our text for today tells us how.

Prior to ascending back to the Father, Jesus gave the disciples instructions to go back to Jerusalem, to wait for the Holy Spirit to come upon them so that they would be empowered to be witnesses of Jesus, telling the whole world that the one who was crucified was now alive. The Holy Spirit was provided as the means by which they could make disciples. And the Holy Spirit is available to us to do the very same.

Everything about the Christian faith is possible by the power of the Holy Spirit. We need Him every day.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit, who was sent to help me be a witness to Jesus and to help me to make disciples. I ask, fill me with the Holy Spirit so I can be a witness to Jesus today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
