Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: James 5:16
“Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
The great joy and privilege that we have as disciples of Jesus Christ, is the joy and privilege of prayer. The joy and privilege of prayer is not that we pray in order to “get” something; rather we pray from the position that we already have something. What is this “something”? The answer is in the line – “the prayer of a righteous person”. A righteous person; a person who has a right relationship with God the Father, through Jesus Christ, His Son our Lord and Saviour. We are “in Christ”; we are positioned in Christ and He prays through us by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is how our prayers become poiwerful and effective: the Holy Spirit intercedes in and through us as conduits of the grace of Jesus Christ who dwells within us.
When a group of Christians gather in prayer, the Lord is in them in righteousness, we can confess our sins; acknowledge our weaknesses and pray for each other and our hearts and lives can be healed – because our prayers offered in Christ are powerful and effective. The power and effectiveness of prayer do not come from us; it comes from Jesus our King and Lord.
On this day, let the joy and privilege of prayer fill you with confidence and assurance of His power working in and through as by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of your Son, my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Thank you Jesus for this relationship of righteousness, and this joy and privilege of prayer. Holy Spirit help me to pray today according to your will because your will is powerful and effective. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
