Text: Philippians 4:6-7

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

We live in a world that creates a lot of anxiety. Political issues; immigration issues; financial issues; issues of war, violence and abuse; issues of the future. And what Paul says in Philippians 4:6 is relevant to today. “Don’t worry about anything…” Most translations have this as “Be anxious for nothing…” The Greek word used here for “anxious” is merimnao. And the root to this word is “to be pulled apart”: to be totally overwhelmed and undone. So much anxiety, and so much to worry about, that we lose our centre.

This is what the disciples experience when they got caught in the boat in a terrible storm. They were totally overwhelmed, coming apart at the seams. And they were crying out to Jesus for help. And where was Jesus? He was sleeping peacefully. Sleeping?? How? He was in the Father’s perfect will and knew that His time wasn’t up yet. He was at peace. Paul is saying that if we can remain centred in Christ, His peace will guard and carry us forward.

No matter what you might be facing today. Keep youeyes on Jesus, yield everything to Him and you will know His peace and that will carry you to the other side of your storm.

Prayer: Thank you Father, that no matter what storms I have to face today, I yield myself to you, that the peace of Jesus Chrsit might guard my heart in Him. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
