Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

June 2, 2026

Text: Judges 6:25

Tear down your father’s altar to Baal and cut down the Asherah pole beside it.

Gideon has just been informed that the Lord is going to use him to deliver the Israelites from the wicked, pagan Midianites. But before he can do anything, the Lord instructs him to tear his father’s altar to Baal and cut down the Asherah pole. Gideon needs to get his house in order in order that he can be used completely by the Lord. He was consecrating himself, his father’s household (and later the whole town) by removing all paganism and restoring the altar of the Lord.

When the Lord calls us into His assignment, we too must get our house in order, and be completely consecrated unto the Lord: completely devoted to Him, and nothing of ourselves left under the influence of the world.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the calling you have placed on my life to make Jesus known to the world. I repent of all forms of paganism and idolatry and I surrender all that I am to you. Consecrate me to your service by the power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
