Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Judges 16:12
So Delilah took new ropes and tied him up with them. The men were hiding in the inner room as before, and again Delilah cried out, “Samson! The Philistines have come to capture you!” But again Samson snapped the ropes from his arms as if they were thread. (NLT)
At birth, Samson had been consecrated to the Lord, but he wasn’t living like he was consecrated. There were three vows that a Nazirite took: abstinence from alcohol, not touching dead things and not cutting his hair. While Samson did not drink himself, he hosted a drunken fest in Judges 14. He did, however, touch a dead carcass. He did keep his hair long. However, it was expected that the people of God would not marry outside their kind. He married a Philistine. While it could be argued that “technically” he kept his vows, he was always dancing the dance of compromise. His pagan wife convinced him to tell her the secret of his power. The pagan had more influence over Samson than God Himself, and that was His downfall.
When we let the ways of the world cause us to compromise our relationship with the Lord, we too will experience a downfall.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, fill me with the Holy Spirit so that today, despite all temptations, I will not compromise my walk with you. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
