Daily Light Devotional: You Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Judges 13:3-5

“The angel of the Lord appeared to Manoah’s wife and said, “Even though you have been unable to have children, you will soon become pregnant and give birth to a son. 4 So be careful; you must not drink wine or any other alcoholic drink nor eat any forbidden food. 5 You will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and his hair must never be cut. For he will be dedicated to God as a Nazirite from birth. He will begin to rescue Israel from the Philistines.” (NLT)

In this text we have the promise from the Lord to Manoah’s wife about having a son. The Lord said that this child (Samson) was to not have his hair cut. This was the sign of his consecration, his separation unto the Lord. Samson was consecrated to the Lord from his birth (it reads “from the womb” in the NIV). And part of that consecration is being set apart as a deliverer for the people of God. As Christians, there are applications from this for us. As we were “born again” by the Holy Spirit, into the Lord, means that we too have been consecrated unto the Lord. We have been set apart in holiness and in function. What is our function? To deliver people from the bondage of Satan; that would know the Lordship of Jesus Christ and be living fully for Him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the reality that “in Chrsit” I have been set apart; I have been consecrated unto you for your purpose – to make Jesus known to the world that people would come to the saving knowledge of Jesus. Holy Spirit, empower me to live out this purpose today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
