Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Psalm 18:2
“The Lord is my shield…”
All the previous images used in Psalm 18:2 (rock, fortress and refuge) are static. They remain in one place; they are places that we are “in”. The image of a shield is something that moves. A shield is worn “into” battle. Battles cannot be avoided. Life cannot be avoided. Even still, the Lord is my shield; He goes with me into the battle. Ephesians 6:16 says that the “shield of faith” is used to put out the fiery darts of the devil, our enemy. The Lord is faithful, and by trusting Him in all circumstances to be the shield, the fiery darts will not affect us. The darts may indeed hit our faith, but it is His faithfulness to us that keeps the effects of the darts to a minimal and we can walk in confident victory that our Lord is with us and for us.
Prayer: Thank you Lord, that you are my shield, that your faithfulness to me keeps the dart from affecting me or damaging me. Thank you for your faithfulness. Thank you that in you I can have the confidence to walk in victory. Be glorified in and through me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
