Daily Light: June 30th

Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Psalm 18:2

“The Lord is the horn of my salvation…”

What is the “horn of my salvation”? Typically, they are seen as symbols of strength. In addition to that lets consider the event in 1 Kings 2:28. Joab had supported Adonijah’s claim for the throne of David, in opposition to Solomon. When Adonijah’s attempt tp take the throne failed, Joab fled. He fled to the “tent of the Lord” and took hold of the horn at the altar. He refused to come out and face Solomon, hoping that instead – by holding onto the horn of the altar he might receive mercy. He did not. Solomon had him executed. For Joab, the horn had no strength or mercy. For David, the was always merciful when he made mistakes and this gave him strength. For us the God news is that Jesus is also the horn of salvation (Luke 1:69). And whoever repents of their sin and takes hold of His mercy shall be saved and safe. His mercy gives us strength.

Prayer: Thank you Jesus for being my horn of salvation; for granting me mercy. Your mercies are new everyday; great is your faithfulness. May the strength of your mercy empower me to great faithfulness today. Be glorified in and through me today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
