Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Psalm 119:1

Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord!

In the English Standard Version (ESV) the word “blessed” is used 291 times. In the Psalms it is used 51 times. It is most consistently read as “blessed is the one”, or “blessed are those”.

The meaning of “blessed” can be translated as “happy is the one..”. Our verse relates back to Psalm 1 that says – “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers but his delight is in the Law of the Lord and on law he meditates day and night.” Our text reminds us that by not walking, standing or sitting in the way of wickedness – their way is blameless. How does one stay in the right way? How do we stray blameless? Psalm 1 begins the clue – by “meditating” upon the Law. Psalm 119:1 completes the clue: by “walking in the Law of the Lord”. As we meditate on the Word, and as we walk in obedience to the Word, we will be blessed – we will be happy and filled with joy.

How has your meditating upon the Word of God going? It requires discipline to do this and the Holy Spirit helps us to be obedient (Philippians 2:13)

Prayer: Father God, I give thanks to you that you desire me to be blessed and happy. And I thank you that this blessedness and happiness is rooted in Jesus. He is the Law and the Word. Lord, I commit myself to meditating on your Word day and night. Holy Spirit empower me to obedient to walk in the Ways of the Word; the Way of the Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray.
