Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)
July 9, 2026
Text: Psalm 119:4
You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently.
The Lord has “commanded” that His laws/commands/statutes/precepts be kept diligently. From God’s perspective, this is not optional. However, less than 30 % of Christians (according to a survey) read their Bibles daily. Like prayer, the discipline of being in the Word, has fallen off greatly. We are too busy. We are too tired. These are just excuses. We are commanded to do this, and if we refuse, we are being disobedient and sin is reigning supreme.
The Hebrew word rendered “diligently” carries the connotation of: exceedingly, in abundance and forcefully. Many read their Bibles casually and occasionally. To read “diligently” means to read abundantly and aggressively. To read as if our lives depended on it. Which of course it does.
How is your Bible reading going?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word, that brings life, light and love. Forgive me for my lackadaisical approach to your Word. Holy Spirit, kindle in my heart a burning passion to be in the Holy Word and know Jesus more and more. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
