Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

July 10, 2026

Text: Psalm 119:5

Oh, that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes!

The Psalmist, after acknowledging the goodness of God’s commands, His decrees, statutes, His testimonies – He recognizes that the “blessings” of the Lord are not automatic. There must be deliberate intentionality in being committed to the Word of God: to read and to obey. Being in the Word is not going to happen by osmosis.

The Psalmist cries out – Oh that my ways may steadfast in keeping your statutes. The Hebrew word rendered “steadfast” is rooted in the the mindset of being “committed” or “established”. Its like drawing a line in the stand, and saying “it starts now”; like plunging a flag on a new territory and claiming it for the monarch. I declare right now, that I am establishing, declaring my steadfast commitment to being on the Word daily. That is the only way we can know the blessings of the Lord.

Prayer: Father God, just as you have committed your way to me; I commit and establish my way in you. I commit, with steadfastness to being in your Word and keeping your Word. Holy Spirit empower me to will and to obey the Word breathed by you. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
