Daily Light Devotionals: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)
July 13, 2026
Text: Psalm 119:6
Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.
One of the greatest sad realities among Christians is the hypocrisy that is so visible before the world. Christians go to Church, yet are engaged in adultery or consumers of pornography. Christians abuse each other. Christians do not reflect what the Word says we should? Why is there all this shameful activity. There are a number of reasons – but the primary reason is that we are not in the Word of God. We are not digesting the Word, and because of that, we become susceptible to shameful behaviour. That shameful behaviour includes our absence from the Lord because we are not in the Word.
Out text says that when we fix our eyes on the Lord’s commandment (the Word of God), we will not be put to shame. The Word of God keeps us anchored to the Lord, and keeps us in His way. “Fixing” our eyes implies making the definitive choice of being in the Word, reading the Word and meditating on the Word. “Fixing” our eyes is a spiritual discipline that needs to be strengthened.
When we feel the pull of the world and the pull of the flesh, fix your eyes on the Word, get back into the Word of God.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, as this day begins, I fix my eyes on your Word. Let me not be put to shame for my spiritual laziness. Fill me with your Spirit that you might be glorified through me today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
