Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)
July 20, 2026
Text: Psalm 119:11
I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
One of the many challenges in the Church today is to increase level of Biblical literacy. Many believers today do not see the need for the memorization of scripture.
However, today verse makes clear the importance of scripture memorization. “I have stored up your Word in my heart”. How does one store up the word of God in their heart? By memorization. And what benefit is it to memorize the Word of God. The more scripture we have hidden (memorized) in our heart, the less likely we will sin against God.
Memorization begins with reading the Word, reciting the Word and ruminating with the Word. This pleases the Lord, and we become pleasing to Him.
Begin memorizing by hiding today’s verse in your heart.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for bringing to my attention the importance of memorizing your Word in my heart so that I might not sin against you. Help me Holy Spirit to hide the Word of God in my heart. Be glorified in and through me today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
