Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Psalm 119:16
I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.
There are two parts to this verse. And they function as parallelism. They reinforce each other. Because I delight in your statutes (Law/Word), I won’t forget what you have said. Inverted, one could say – Because I don’t forget your Word, I have great delight. Because of this inverted pattern, the Psalmist has determined that he “will” continue to read and meditate on the Word of God and not forget. This an intentional and deliberate act.
If one is going to know the joy of the Lord and delight in the Word, they have to be in the Word. The need to read and meditate on it every day. This cannot be sporadic or occasional. Otherwise, the delight and joy will dissipate and you won’t remember anything. Get in the Word – daily.
Prayer: Father God, by your Spirit empower me to be obedient to you by being in your Word everyday that I might delight in your Word and delight in you. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
