Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)
July 24, 2026
Text: Psalm 119:15
I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.
Three key words in this verse: meditate, precepts and ways.
The word “way” can be understood in two ways, one as the ways that the Lord wants things done and secondly, the path that He has set us upon. In order to walk this path well, we need to know what His precepts are. “Precepts” that function like rules and principle – things that we prohibited and things are not helpful. An example of a prohibition, “do not steal”. A suggestion, “you shouldn’t take food from a bear”. These are the precepts that we need to be aware of, think about, and meditate on as continue on this journey.
The more wisdom, laws, rules, principles we have, the more aware and wise we will be as we fix our eyes on the journey. Being faithful and obedient is connected to knowledge and wisdom. We don’t exhibit faith by being blind to the pitfall, that would just be foolish. This why we meditate on the Law/Word day and night (see Psalm 1).
Prayer: Father, thank you for the privilege of your Word, help me to mediate on it and grow in the knowledge of your Word that I might walk this journey of faith according to your wisdom and bring you glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
