Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a Lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Psalm 119:17
Deal bountifully with your servant, that I may live and keep your word.
When one first reads this verse, one might have the impression that the writer is trying to manipulate God. Like he might be saying – “Be bountiful to me, or I won’t read your Word.” However, that is not what the Psalmist is driving at. The phrase, “deal bountifully with your servant” could be translated as – “be good to me” or “be generous to me” as I read your Word. Even better is “Lord in your generosity, be gracious to me that by your grace I can live in your Word”.
We cannot do anything a part from the grace of God. When you start your day, ask the Lord the grace to understand, apply and live what you are reading in the Word of God.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your written Word. As I read it today, grant me the grace to understand what I am reading, apply it to my heart and the courage to live it out. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
