Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Psalm 119:27
Cause me to understand the way of your precepts, that I may meditate on your wonderful deeds.
Sometimes wehave the impression that the goal of reading God’s Word is to be able to understand His precepts. That is only the start. The Psalmist says – “cause me to understand the way of your precepts” :understand the “way” of the Word. This has to do with application and functionality. In reading the Gospels, it more than reading and understanding facts, reading the Gospels is for the purpose of knowing Jesus. And in knowing Jesus we begin to know His way, and that is only the second step. Next comes meditating on that “way”. We mull it over in our minds, we apply to our heart to that the information become transformation. What we are talking about goes far beyond reading and memorizing, it’s allowing the Word to be living and active, cutting through the attitude of our hearts so we are transformed more and more into the image of. That is the evidence of being in His Word.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your Holy Word breathed out by the Holy Spirit. Thank you that your Word points us not only to the Way of salvation in Jesus, but also the transforming power to become like Jesus. Holy Spirit, help me not just to understand the ways of Jesus, but also to meditate day and night on Him to become more like Him. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
