Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)
August 19 2026
Text: Psalm 119:33
Teach me, Lord, the way of your decrees, that I may follow it to the end.
In this verse we have the God figure as the outside person. It has always be God’s desire to work with His children in becoming more like Jesus and obey the Lord’s decrees.
In this verse, the writer of the Psalms wants the Lord to teach him, so he is no longer doing his own thing. Ther writer wants to know everything the Lord wants him to do. In doing so the writer of the Psalm will follow that path to its own conclusion. We don’t read the Bible for our own entertainment. We do read the Bible to get information. We read the Bible so that we can know Jesus and how He wants us to live.
To read and study the Bible, the Word of God, is not to get information about Jesus. Rather, it’s about growing in our relationship with Jesus, so we are obedient to our path.
Prayer: Father, thank you for reminding that I am to read the Bible not for the sake of simply reading but I am to read the Bible to know you, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Lord, teach me your decrees so that I might know you more and follow you and your way to the end. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
