Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Psalm 119:39
Take away the disgrace I dread, for your laws are good.
What is it that we fear? And how does that fear affect us? The writer of this Psalm writes of “the disgrace I dread”. He is afraid of being disgraced; afraid of being put to shame. Is that the only answer that we can come up with? The verse says that “take away the disgrace I dread, FOR your laws are good”. “For” means that the Psalmist is giving a reason why he is afraid of being disgraced. He is afraid of disgracing or dishonoringGod. This verse is not about our reputation. It’s about the Lord’s reputation. And now does one not bring shame upon the Lord? By being in the Word. By digesting the Word, living according to the Word. The “goodness” of God’s Word takes away that fear. Remember what the Lord said – “They honour me with the lips (lip service) but their hearts are far from me” (Isaiah 29:13). When our hearts are filled with the goodness of the Lord, we will then honor the Lord; everything in our mouth will be honoring to the Lord. Eating, digesting, memorizing and living according to the Word will remove any fear that we might dishonor the Lord.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, help me to be in the Word daily, to eat, digest, absorning the goodness of your Word so that everything in me and all that I am brings honor to you. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
