Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Psalm 119:48
I reach out for your commands, which I love, that I may meditate on your decrees.
No matter what trials and tribulations we go through in life, there is always something that we turn to; something for which we reach. This “something” acts like a compass giving direction; or like a anchor that gives security. For the Psalmist, this “something” is God’s Word, God’s law, His commands. The Word of God is his compass and his anchor.
Moreover, this Word is the object of his affection. The Psalmist has anchored himself so deeply in God’s Word that it is indeed the compass and anchor that gets him through tough times. He has spent so much time in the Word that he loves both the Word and the author of the Word.
This trusting, loving relationship with the Word of God, is what compels him to meditate deeply on the Word, that he might know even the decrees and the will of God – even know God himself. And that is the goal of digesting the Word, know the Lord in a personal way.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for the written Word. Forgive me when I take both the Word and you for granted. Holy Spirit, put a new desire in my heart not only for more of Jesus, but also for more of the Word that might become more like Jesus. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
