Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Psalm 119:49

Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope.

When we think of reading the Word of God, we usually think of the habits and disciplines we have in reading the Word. But here’s another way to read the word that we need to ponder. We need to learn to let the Word read us. What does that mean? The verse says – “remember your to me”. In other words, let your Word speak to me.

When Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days, undergoing His temptation, the devil tempted him by saying – “command these stones to turn to bread”. To which Jesus responded: “man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” And when we add this to what Jesus said in the Lord’s prayer, “give us this day our daily bread”, there is a clear understanding that as we read the Word of God, God also want to speak a Word to “give us hope”.

As I read scripture and pray what I have learned, I then ask the Lord – “what would you say to me today”. And once he said (its different every day) “Psalm 23:1”. And that verse reads – “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want”. I realized that He was asking me to trust Him. This was the Lord “remembering” His Word to me. And it gave me confidence and hope.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for your written Word, that has transformed my life. And thank you for the realization that you also want to speak personally to your servant. Holy Spirit help me to listen and to hear. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
