Daily Light: October 13th

Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Psalm 119:72

The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.

You may be familiar with the TV show, “Antique Road Show”. In this show, ticket holders come with antiques to be appraised. There are two criteria for appraisal – the age of the item and its authenticity. If the item is old (and verifiable) and is original (and one of a kind) its appraisal value will be high.

The Word of God meets these two requirements: it is ancient (for it comes from God who is the ancient of days) and it is original – only God has ever spoken His Words. Additionally, there is a third factor of appraisal and that is of sentimental value. The sentimental value in the Word of God is that it is “precious” to us – especially as we read it digest it and let is shape us. The age and authenticity of the Word of God makes it valuable. The place it has in our lives, as we read it, memorize it, meditate on it, and digest it make it invaluable: more precious than silver or gold.

How precious is the Word of God for you?

Prayer: Father God, thank you for your precious Word; the words of life and hope. Holy Spirit, teach me and empower to read, memorize the Word of God so that itincreases its value in me, pointing always to the living Word inside of me: Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
