Text: Psalm 119:78

May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause; but I will meditate on your precepts.

Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble.” (John 16:33) Oftentimes this trouble come from those who arrogantly oppose us because of our faith in Christ. They will mock, criticize us, gossip about us, and even speak shamefully to our face. The Psalmist addresses this in our verse for today. “May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause.” This means that we forgive and leave them in the hands of the Lord and instead we will meditate on the goodness of the Lord. He will take care of the arrogant and He will take care of us. In John 16:33 it says that we will have trouble, but not to worry because He “has overcome the world.” Our confidence comes not from the mistaken idea the the proud and arrogant can change, but rather from the Lord who has already dealt with them.

Father God, thank you for the good news that I don’t have to be concerned about the arrogant and the wrong they have committed against me. Instead, I will keep my eyes on Jesus and keep my eyes in the Word. Be glorified in and through me today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
