Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Philippians 4:13
I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
An number of years ago, at a meeting with fellow clergy, I quoted this verse, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength” (NKJV). One of the clergy said –“No you can’t”. We got into an argument. He said, “I may want to run a marathon, but there’s no way I can, and Jesus isn’t going to help me.” I indicated, that you are missing the point. Its not that we can do “whatever I want”, but rather, whatever the Lord wants us to, we can do it because He will enable and empower us to do it.
This is very important for Christians to understand. God is never going to ask us to do something that we can do. Because if we can do it, we will take credit for it. We are to be holy, and that can only happen by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are to witness to others about the Good News, and we can only do that bt the power of the Holt Spirit. So the next time you feel that the Lord is asking you to something that seems impossible, don’t fight just obey.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the Good News that in Christ I am able to do whatever you ask and command. Holy Spirit, be the power within me that I can bring glory to the Father and honour to the Son by what I do. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
