Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path.

Text: John 1:1-3
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.”
Many years ago, I was part of a Presbytery committee charged with hiring a University Chaplain. His academic credentials were exceptional, but his background was a bit suspect. As I was one of two evangelicals on the committee, I made sure I took the opportunity to ask him point blank: Is Jesus Christ your Lord and Saviour? To which he answered yes. He was hired.
Years later, we discovered that he was the president of a progressive liberal philosophical institute that existed to portray a human Jesus. The subtitle of the book he wrote was – “Stop worshipping Jesus at the altar of divinity.” When I confronted him about his answer to my previous question – He replied that Jesus is his lord and saviour, on his terms. Turns out he didn’t believe in the historicity of the crucifixion or the resurrectioneither.
I share this to reiterate that essential to orthodox Christianity is the fact that Jesus Christ IS the eternal son of God and that He IS divine. This is what our verses for today clearly portray. If he isn’t any of these things, then the Christian faith is a sham and we have no hope.
But if you know that Jesus is eternal, is God, is raised from the dead and you are born again in Him – you have so much to celebrate. Give thanks to the Lord for all that He is in your life.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you that you are eternal, that you are God and that everything has been made through you. Thank you that because of you I am born again. May the joy of salvation bubble up within me like a river. In your name I pray. Amen.
