Daily Light: April 3rd

Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

April 3 2026

Text: Isaiah 53:7

He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth.

Today is Good Friday, the day that Jesus was whipped, and beaten and nailed to the cross. And as He experienced these horrific acts, the text from Isaiah 53:7 says that “He never said a word”, that He was “silent” and “did not open His mouth”. Why? Why didn’t He cry out when He was being subjected to such torture.

Jesus was demonstrating complete and utter submission to the Father’s will. Which is exactly what sheep did when they were being led to the slaughter. The Gospel of John describes Jesus as the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Jesus would be that lamb as he made no sound.

The only time that Jesus makes a sound (Matthew 27:46) is when He is about to die and cries out in a loud voice “my God My God why have you forsaken me”. This refers to the pain He would suffer ibn being separated from the Father. In taken pain for our sake, He was silent. Jesus knew He would go through all that pain for us, and did in complete submission.

Prayer: Thank you for going to the cross in my place. And you did so without complaint and with complete humility and submission. My I do likewise today as I die to self for your glory. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
