Daily Light: April 2nd

Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Isaiah 53:5

But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.

This text from Isaiah is a prophecy about the suffering Messiah that was spoken 700 years before Christ was born. Jesus would have been very familiar with this text. And He would have known what was going to happen to Him.

What did Isaiah 53:5 say was going to happen to Jesus? He would be pierced; He would be crushed; He would be beaten and He would be whipped. That is horrific and staggering. But why? Why did He have to go through this. He went through this for “our rebellion” and “our sins”. This was horrendous, but note our benefit: He did this so we could “be whole” and so that we could be “healed”. He was pierced and crushed to pay our sin debt and we beaten and whipped to set us free.

Here is the amazing thing: He knew all this was going to endure all this pain, and He did it for those who would receive and believe. That truly is unconditional love. He did that for you!

Prayer: Thank you Jesus for all that you suffered for me. Thank you for paying my sin debt in full. Holy Spirit help me to live in constant gratitude to the Lord that I am free and I am whole. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
