Daily Light: August 26th

Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Psalm 119:38

Fulfill your promise to your servant, so that you may be feared.

The Bible says that the “fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10). We also know that God’s Word is filled with 1000s of promises. And our verse says that one promise is enough to is enough to instill the fear of the Lord. Just imagine what kind of wisdom we could have with 1000s of verses.

Remember, this “fear” is not to be confused with being terrified of God, as if He were some kind of monster. This “fear” from the Hebrew (yir/yirah) means reverence and awe.  When we discover the incredible wisdom of God in the promises of God, we will be in awe. And vice versa: when we are in awe of God, the wisdom of God’s Word becomes tangible and transformative and brings more awe. The Word of God is a pivot point between awe and wisdom. And that creates humility in us. That is what makes us His servant.

Prayer: Father God, as I discover the truth and magnitude of your wisdom, may I be filled with awe and reverence towards you. And as I am overjoyed with awe and reverence, may your wisdom continue to multiply and continue to transform me into the likeness of Jesus – the Living Word! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
