Text: Psalm 18:1

“I love you Lord, my strength…”

For the last six days we have examined the descriptors for God in Psalm18:2. He is my rock, my fortress, my deliverer, my refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. Because David knew all these things to be true about the Lord, he was able to say – “The Lord is my strength”. “MY” strength. “MY” means possession and ownership. David couldn’t say that he “owned” God but there is a sense he could say that he had in possession the benefits of knowing these descriptors of the Lord. And the benefit that he describes is that with all these characteristics, David had the necessary strength to walk our everyday with the Lord. We too can possess this strength. The way we can posses this strength is to daily declare and rejoice that the Lord is my rock, my fortress, my deliverer, my refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. In everything the Lord is faithful to me.

Prayer: Lord, thank you that because you are my rock, my fortress, my deliverer, my refuge, my shield and my horn of salvation – I can possess your strength and trust your strength to carry me through another day. Be glorified in all that I do today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
