Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp for my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Joshua 1:3

“I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.”

At the beginning of the Book of Joshua, Moses had just died and Joshua had just been named as the new leader of the Israelites. That must have seemed like a daunting task – to least approximately 2 million people into the promised land.

However, the Lord spoke to Joshua, I give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses”. The Lord promised Moses that He would be with Him as Moses confronted Pharoah and as Moses led the people out of Egypt. God is always faithful. But note what the Lord said to Joshua – “I will give you every place where you set your foot.” It’s as if the Lord is saying to Joshua, “you will have your own path to walk as you follow me.”  God wasn’t expecting Joshua to be another Moses, He was expecting Joshua to be whom God wanted Him to be.

And this is what we need to remember: each one of us has our own path, our own journey, our own assignment to carry out. This is to keep us faithful to the Lord and away from comparing ourselves to other.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the assignment that you have given to me, and to me alone. Holy Spirit, fill me with your power to be obedient to the Lord as I walk His path. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
